Inhotim Inhotim is a contemporary art museum and botanical garden designed in collaboration with landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx. The 5,000 acre site contains many open-air, site-specific sculptures as well as ten art galleries, over 100 acres of gardens, and 3,000 acres of preserved native forest. The drawings, paintings, photographs, videos, and sculptures on display are by a variety of Brazilian and international artists (including Doug Aitken, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Thomas Hirschhhorn, Yayoi Kusama, Ernesto Neto, Janet Cardiff, Haegue Yang, Paul McCarthy, Doris Salcedo, Cildo Meireless, Vik Muniz, Helio Oiticia, and Adriana Varejão). The gardens emphasize rare tropical species from the Cerrado and Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest). The Conference Excursion's date is Wednesday, July 24th, leaving Belo Horizonte in the morning, and returning in the evening.
Circuito Cultural A free Guided Tour of the Museums of the Circuito Cultural da Praça da Liberdade will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July, 25th. We'll visit the Centro de Arte Popular - Cemig (folk arts of Minas Gerais), the Museu das Minas e do Metal (mining and metallurgy in historical perspective, and the influence of metal in human life), the Memorial Minas Gerais Vale (history, literature, fashion and heritage, draw a contemporary picture of Minas, from its memory), and the Espaço Tim UFMG do Conhecimento (a planetarium and astronomical terrace, tracing the history of the human species on Earth).
The Free Tour of the Museums of the Circuito do Conhecimento will begin at 7 p.m. on July 25th. There'll be guided tours in English for the Hume Society. We'll meet at the Coreto, at Praça da Liberdade. Ouro Preto
Ouro Preto, a World Heritage Site, is a beautiful eighteenth-century gold mining town located in the mountains of Minas Gerais. Its Colonial Baroque Architecture is an exciting view for first-time visitors. All of a sudden, it seems as if a journey back in time is a reality.
Rio de Janeiro Post-Conference Excursion Option 1: Rio de Janeiro - "cidade maravilhosa" - is fifty minutes away from Belo Horizonte, by plane. It is a world Heritage Site, famous for its rich nature and culture.
